Could be that because I'm using slightly harder reeds (see below) that
it
works really well for me.

As I get marginally better with the bass, I am in fact starting to
favor the Pomarico #1 and a #3 Daniel tenor reed. Also a BG ligature,
since for some reason, metal ligatures like the Optimum and Bonade
(both very nice on my Selmer D) tend not to adhere too well to crystal.
I mostly like how I sound. I just started trying Marca 3.5 "regular"
bass clarinet reeds, but just adding that half-step makes the
instrument real hard to blow, probably because I am still building my
chops and I really need to establish a much more rigorous practice
schedule. Do Marca reeds tend to be harder in general?
