The part about him auditioning for the orchestra gig was relayed to me by
one of his students and a couple other people "in the know". As i
understand it he was merely acting department chair at Tech. I figure he
found a definite opening at Sam Houston and took it.

Nice gossip but not true. He was Department Chair at Texas Tech, and is
now Department Chair at Sam Houston State University. He is also Treasurer
of the ICA.
