I work with all of my Bass Clarinet students to get them to not anchor
tongue. It lowers their tongue in their mouth and gives them no finesse
on their tonguing. I tongue the same on all single reed instsruments.
Even if I need a "hard" tongue.

My own personal philosophy (which has proven true on more than one
doubler student) is whatever you do well you soprano, you can do well on
bass. The opposite is not always true though. For doublers, I stress
that they continue to practice their technique on soprano and it
transfers well to the larger instruments. Every doubler that I've ever
taught did better when they continued to practice their soprano
equally. Just my H.O.!

:-)

Subject: Re: [donax-m] bending notes down

Jennifer,

Would you mind going into more detail? Is an open tip more or less flexible than
a small tip opening? We can't read your mind and it seems you have something to
tell us. Please do.
