I would second the recommendation for _A Book for the Clarinet Reed-Maker_ =
by Ronald V. V@-----. If=
not, he still has some good information including a chart that indicates=
what portion of the reed affects which playing characteristics. Here's=

R.V. would be his own publishing co. and at one point he had a website- it=
has moved or something. If you contact him please ask for the URL and I'll=
add it to my site. I also think he was/is in the Naval Academy Band.
