I would recommend an alto. It may be in a different key but it is closer to Bb
clarinet in terms of width of grip and mouthpiece/reed size (not to mention that
alto usually gets the better parts).

Subject: [kl] Sax Advice

Hello,
My name is Chris and I was wondering if there were any doublers out there
that could give some advice. I want to get into jazz, so I'll be in the
market for a sax. I keep getting conflicting advice as far as if I should
get a soprano, alto or tenor. I'm only buying one sax, since it is my
second instrument. The advice I've gotten so far that made the most sense
to me was to get a tenor, since it plays in the same key as my clarinet and
is just as common in the jazz band as alto, and I could play out of the
same jazz books and jazz charts without transposing on clarinet and sax.
Anyone else have any thoughts on this subject?

Thanks,
Chris
