Actually, I have two associates who play a woodwind LC1 mouthpiece (that's
a Larry Combs, I think), and both insist that 4 1/2's go soft way too fast
using that mouthpiece. One of them enjoys using a Gennusa GE over the
LC1, but because the standard GE is downright rare, he's using the Combs.
He says 4.5s are perfectly fine for the GE, but not the the LC1.

Oh, and one of them uses V12's at 4.5, the other, Oliveri standard blanks
and Grand Concerts at 4.5, so I doubt it's 'just the reed'.
