Let me clarify. The Pogorelich performance was not bad - he is a
magnificent pianist. But what I heard was a bizarre interpretation of
the music. Pogorelich was definitely not on drugs, alcohol or any other
mind-altering substance. He was in complete control and he played
exactly how he wanted to. The performance lasted almost 50 minutes.
And yes, I heard the piece differently than I had ever heard it before.
If that was his objective, it worked. But I don't care to hear it that
way again.
