David Blumberg noted:

<<<I feel that it is very, very poor taste to boo a performer, I don't care
how badly the piece is played, how sloppy it was, or if the performer got in
the middle of the performance, and said "forget it" (or something a little
more off center;). . . .The polite thing [to do is] just "let it pass".>>>

I agree w/ David.

I HATE watching bad performances--I wince and squirm, and maybe die a little
inside because I know how bad it can be to have a performance get away from
you. Not only have I been in the audience for bad performances. I played a
pit job in a bad, bad musical too. Heck, one of my recitals maybe didn't go
so well.

I'm not sure what the booing is supposed to accomplish--surely the booer
(boor?) doesn't think that the communication is necessary for the performer
to know that it's not going so well?

I liked Leila's list of sanctions, and tend to agree with her. If ever
appropriate at all, booing would be OK only when the performer has first
shown disrespect for the audience (streaking, etc.). Unconventional
performance practice doesn't cut it--it may be bad art, but one should
respect the statement being made (at least w/ cold silence).
