I agree with David. Especially for those of us on the list who have
performed before and know what it is like to be up there, you should try to
emphathize and imagine how it would feel if you had to hear boo's and jeers
at the end of a performance.

A lot of it depends on the circumstances of the performance of course....
for instance, you wouldn't boo a sixth grade band which just played an
arrangement of Beethoven's Ode to Joy would you? Yet, surely, it wouldn't
be up to the same standard as the local orchestra's performance of that
piece. I can't think of circumstances that justify booing though -- that
really is the ultimate in rudeness and just isn't called for. Surely the
audience has the right to an opinion, but you have to weigh what is more
important: expressing that opinion or showing respect for a performer. I've
played in front of people before, but it still makes me pretty nervous, and
if I goofed a solo part in a band work or a passage of the Mozart Concerto
and people booed me I don't know if I would ever get up in front of people
again. In the long run, consideration for others is certainly more
important than an expression of opinion that doesn't benefit anyone
involved.
