Hi everyone,

Just a quick note about an upcoming concert I'm involved in, for those in
the Toronto area. In 2 weeks on Friday November 5, at 8PM I'll be in a
benefit concert for the Canadian Music Competition at the Glenn Gould
Theatre in the CBC Broadcasting Centre downtown in Toronto, 25O Front
St.West (right by the CN Tower and Skydome). Program is Stravinsky's
Soldier's Tale (trio version, cl/violin/pno), Stravinsky's Petroushka for
solo piano (David Louie, very hot virtuoso!), a bass clarinet
improvisation, and second half is the Messiaen Quartet for the End of
Time. Because of this amazing, spiritual piece the organizers are billing
this as a Millenium Gala, and it should be great. Tickets at the door or
by calling 2O5-5555 for the box office. I'll be sporadic with email the
next couple of weeks, so best to call there.

On a different thought, I've been loving David Rothenberg's 1991 CD
"Nobody Could Explain It". He's a jazz/new music player from Boston, and
this is a wild mix of Stoltzman-esque jazz/blues/folk improv's with rhythm
section, and explorations of diverse folk flutes from Norway, Hungary and
Tibet. Beautiful melodic lines, haunting Tibetan prayer piece, it's
fantastic. A lot of ground covered in just under 6O minutes. Accurate
Records, P.O.Box 39O115, Cambridge, MA O2139. Standard disclaimer, no
personal interest in this CD or company, never met Mr.Rothenberg, paid
full price and loving this. When my CD arrived there was a weird skipping
effect that disappeared when I used a CD cleaning cloth and solution to
wipe off some sort of film on the playing surface.
