I have been playing on Buffet Elite clarinets for about ten years now, and
have found them to be excellent clarinets. I have never had any trouble
projecting the sound in the orchestra, although I must say our orchestra is
only really chamber-sized at around fifty players. I bought them when I was
having some trouble with my right hand and thought that the lighter weight
would help, which it did. I would say though that the sound is not perhaps
as robust in the low register as it is with R13s, although the low E and F
are really well in tune as opposed to R13s which tend to have flat bottom
notes.
I was able to audition quite a few pairs before I chose mine, and I would
expect that your friend should be able to do likewise....don't buy the first
pair as they do vary quite a lot.
Regards,
Chris Waller.
