Re: Elites--A freelancers first impression.

I've tried a few in stores.(three)

Definitely lighter, would take some getting use to.
Used by at least one Canadian clarinetist
in a full time symphony orchestra.

My personal impression is a more centered sound,
wants to be brighter, more upper harmonics.
The upper end of the tonal spectrum felt more pronounced.
I suspect some might describe this as thinner. I liked the
clearer projection. The body, being ebony, is so very thin,
I would be nervous about seeing a pin put in one.
The Canadian Central armed forces band purchased
one, it cracked, it was sent back. The tuning was very
very good, tone very even. I think it would be a great solo instrument.

These are just the first impressions of one
busy freelancer that uses R13's, Chadash barrels,
Smith mouthpieces. You must try instruments for yourself.
It is an interesting experience to try a dozen R13's that have been "set up".
They seem so very different, and unique to me.
Do other get this sense about them?

Cheers
