I've seen Buescher Aristocrats (post-WWII student quality, probably from the
early 1950s, to judge from the styles of case) with wooden upper and lower
sections and hard rubber barrels and bells. I've also seen Buescher
Aristocrats of about the same vintage with wood sections and plastic barrels
and bells. I've seen other 1950-ish Aristocrats made entirely of rubber,
entirely of wood and entirely of plastic!

Apropos of the C. R. Scott nylon barrel, J. Shouryu Nohe wrote,

That's because you've never worn pantyhose, invented by the Devil.
