Many, many thanks to the list members who responded to my query about
wetting reeds before playing. I learned something from every one of
your posts, and now have lots of ideas to try out for myself.
A specific answer to the question John Langridge asked me: I had been
preparing new reeds a box (10) at a time, and yes I had been soaking
them 5 to 10 minutes before playing, then recording their response. One
ongoing problem has been that the reeds I select as most responsive
often turn out to be quite disappointing when I begin to use them on a
regular basis. Based on the replies I have received, I am going to
reduce the initial soak and also reduce the amount of time the reeds are
played each time for the first week or so of use.
Once again, thanks to all for your help. Frank Galiani
