A simple suggestion for practicing C transposition:
play hymn tunes along with the piano. If you
recognize the melody, this is a very effective way to
comfortably familiarize yourself with C transpostion.
Thinking of raising the key signature one full step
becomes comfortable relatively quickly. It also helps
if you are married to a patient spouse who plays the
piano!

I have a C clarinet which is infinitely more handy to
use when the key signatures are a bit too much (and
the tempo is too fast), but it is very useful to be
able to do your C transposition without having to
change instruments.
