You might try a Vandoren B45 mouthpiece. It does not increase the
resistance but it does have good volume. I've never had squeak problems in
the altissimo with it on my 1950s Leblanc Symphonie II, which is a very easy
blowing instrument. With the B45 you shouldn't have to blow hard to get
volume thus you will have less chance of squeaking.

Subject: [kl] Another Resistance Question

This is something I haven't had to deal with in a long time. I have a Buffet
Prestige RC Bb that I do most of my playing on, and an A
clarinet, which is a wonderful Leblanc L300. This instrument still
looks and plays like new but has become my nemesis. When I am doing
orchestral playing, the Leblanc is great, but I am looking at doing
a recital in a few months using the Leblanc on half the recital for
Brahms and Schumann. I can get a wonderful sound on the Leblanc, but
cannot equal the volume of sound I can on my Bb without squeaking at
the high volumes. I am relatively secure it is not leaking, and can
get a great orchestral sound, but when I get closer to the upper
areas of volume in solo literature for contrast, I loose the battle
over the squeaks. There is a feeling of no resistance in playing the
A Leblanc (usually the opposite of the matched brand plight of too
much resistance in the A clarinet. Should I use a more resistant
mouthpiece and reed combination, or will this contain even more of
my volume? How can I increase the volume of the sound and control
it? I am not in a position to replace my A clarinet before my Bb,
and would like a solution for this recital, before I get another A
clarinet with a new Bb.
