Subj: [kl] Another synthetic reed: Alfa Lyron

Last Saturday I visited the '99 Music Instrument Fair at Ikebukuro,
Tokyo, and found white plastic reeds were displayed.

It was Alfa Lyon plastic (polypropylene?) reed. It is a white
flat plate, like a cane reed, with a black rubber attachment.

When I tried the reed, I felt it as good as natural cane reed.
The lady in the booth, who are a saxophone player and has tried
saxophone Alfa Lyron reed, said the reed becomes MORE resistant
when she kept playing the reed. (I think usually the plastic reed
becomes LESS resistant, keeping play on it, but she said so)

I've tried several synthetic reeds, (Bari, Fibracell and the
Legere) and I feel the Alfa's reed may be slightly better than
the Legere. I ordered #3.5 and #4.

Has anyone tried this reed? I would strongly recommend you try it,
if you have a chance.
