perfect performances like this involve a certain amount of dishonesty.
Moreover the act of trying to capture the perfect performance may be
contradictory to the creative process which is inevitably different each
time and evolving. To this extent recorded music poses a danger to the live
process. It becomes more difficult to justify taking an artistic risk
because of the possibility of it not coming off. Performances become
standard rather than individual, sound concepts converge so that they are
more marketable etc. I wonder whether this is a good thing.
