Congratulations! That is exactly what you are supposed to do! The
ultimate goal should be to learn every tune well enough that you can play
it in any and every key.

Sight-reading, or reading music in any form, is a critical skill for a
musician. However, when playing in a jazz combo, other abilities, such as
improvisation and knowledge of chords, scales and keys, take precedence.

I would recommend that you take a look at volume 76 of the Jamey Aebersold
play-along recordings called "How to Learn Tunes," by David Baker. You
