Playing on a closed mouthpiece, might be causing more resistance. I
used to play on real closed mouthpieces, and that caused a lot of
problems for me, such as the lack of free blowing. I tried something more
open, a Clark Fobes, which was more freeblowing and worked better for me.
On hard to control mouthpieces, there has to be one out there, that is
open and easy to control.
Ask Clark Forbes, he knows plenty about mouthpieces. He is on this list,
(hopefully he will respond to you) if not he is on the clarinet pages.
