G'day all,

I finally got hold of the disc containing the "New Mozart Clarinet concerto"
The actual concerto is in Eb major and written for Bb clarinet. According to
to the disc notes (written dy Kieter Klocker who also plays the solo
clarinet part) (let me quote Klocker directly):Let me begin by saying that I
would not be so bold as to claim that the present Clarinet Concertoin Eb
major was composed in full in this form by Mozart himself. Nevertheless I
would not exclude the possibility that large parts of the music derive from
him and from a musician in his immediate circle. One thing is certain: the
concerto is a doublet of the Violin Concerto no 6 from Mozarts lifetime, a
work whose origin and existance the renowned Mozart scholar Dr. Wolfgang
Plath of the new Mozart edition in Augsberg has termed "ominous". Perhaps
the clarinet version will contribute to the solving of the riddles connected
wuth it. perhaps the clarinet version is the original version, which would
hardly be surprising, given it's Eb major ket and the Bb clarinet. And if
Mozart is not the orthur, who was?"

If I've read the notes corectly, the concerto may have been written for
Joseph Beer. Anyway, I like the Concerto a lot. It is of course well played
by Klocker and a very attractive assition to the Clarinet Library. The disc
also contains "Variations on a theme 'Les Marriages Samnites' for Clar and
Orch" ; "Variations for Clar and Orch" (KV deest) and the well known Mozart
Concerto. A nice all Mozart programme.

The CD is MDG Gold label and the number: MDG 301 0755-2 Klocker with the
Prague Chamber Orchestra
