All clarinet lyres I am familiar with are fitted to groove along with the
grooves atop the lower joint after tightening the screws. This would not
work even with a plastic boe, because the oboe does not have adequate
circumference for the ring of the lyre to be tight enough to stay put.
Memorization is definitely the best policy in this situation.
