That's what I use, and that's why the [kl] is there :^)

Cheers,

Subject: Re: [donax-m] Changing reed strength.

I had finished symphony season in Sacramento (197?) and went to Hawaii
for the summer. All my reeds were unusable there. They were stuffy and
hard. Had to make new ones for that location. The old ones were OK
when I got back home.

What caused this?

Maybe the menehunees did it.

Subject: Re: [donax-m] Changing reed strength.

The experiments done on reeds/humidity/temperature have shown that our physiology changes with the humidity and temperature, not the reeds. Our soft tissues swell or shrink in response to the climate. The reeds, after it's been in your mouth for a short time, stabilizes to the heat and humidity in your mouth - which is pretty much a constant unless you're ill.

The reed doesn't respond the same to the changes in your tissues; therefore, you change reeds to accomodate the changed parameters of your mouth/lips.

Same symptoms ("the reed doesn't work"), wrong cause.

The explanation and experiments were presented at ClarinetFest '98 - it may have been either Don Casadonte or Guy Legere's presentation.
