My new 1193-2 Buffet bass has silver keys.
I kept some pads closed in the case with a rubber band.
Where rubber touched silver it turned black in a couple days.

My woodwind technician tells me the sulfur in the
rubber band reacts with the silver.

It cleaned off easy enough.
Now I shim lower pads closed with cork.

If your really not sure if your keys are silver
or chrome I suppose this could be used as a test.
Just don't leave the rubber band on too long.

Cheers
Dave Renaud
