I suggest that you spend some time with Benny's quartet recordings. If you
think you have adequate technique, it should be no problem for you to
replicate his performance of "Airmail Special" or "Avalon." Or even play
the Copland to his level.

Good freakin' luck.

A few more comments on this then I will shut up:

1. This recording Mr. not-so-Gallant refers to is what 23/30 years old. For
God's sake. We knew THEN that Benny had bit off more than he could chew. Old
recording/old information. Let's move on.

2. I have heard excellent, currently working and well regarded clarinetists
come to grief on the Neilsen and the Copland.

3. Personally, I would be proud to have recordings of myself playing the
Copland or the Bartok Contrasts which were as good as Benny Goodman's.

Also......STANDARDS CHANGE. To compare Benny Goodman in the '50's and 60's to
Sabine Meyer, Charles Neidich, or David Shifrin in the 80's and 90's is
ludicrous! Purely ludicrous !!!

Enough.
