Stamitz Clarinet Concerto I am seeking assistance in identifying a Carl
Stamitz Clarinet Concerto. I have the sheet music and a recording of a
work, both labelled as the (K)Carl Stamitz Concerto for Clarinet #11 in Eb.
They are clearly different works, and one at least is mis-labelled. The
recording is of Sabine Meyer on an EMI CD, #CDC 7 54842 2, tracks 4-6,
performing a work nominated as "Clarinet Concerto No. 11 in E flat", the
three movements being labelled Allegro/Aria (Andante moderato)/Rondo alla
Scherzo (Allegro moderato). The sheet music is from the Schirmer's Library
of Musical Classics Vol 1849, labelled "Concerto in Eb for Clarinet",
arranged by Christmann, the three movements being labelled
Allegro/Siciliano/Rondeau. The Preface to the sheet music contains the
following reference: "In Helmut Boese's authoritative dissertation... this
concerto is listed as the eleventh." Not unnaturally, I believe one of
these to be incorrectly labelled. But which one? I've checked Groves, and a
footnote simply records that Boese has listed 12 clarinet concertos
attributable to Carl Stamitz. I am unable to access Boese's work, and if
it's in German, it would be inaccessible to me anyway. I don't know which
of the Stamitz works were in Eb, but have recordings which suggest that his
Concerto #1 was in "F", both #3 & #10 in "Bb", and both #7 & #11 in "Eb".
My recording of #7 also bears no resemblance to the sheet music. I have no
further knowledge of the other Carl Stamitz concertos. Ultimately, I wish
to obtain the sheet music to match the CD recording of the alleged #11. My
local sheet music supplier has access to a data-base which, on this
occasion, has been of little help. Is someone on the List able to assist
me? Thanks, Michael

Michael, I could have helped you if you asked. I both have the recording
(Meyer), and the music, along with the Accompaniment you desire. The
Stamitz Concerto in Eb is published by Sikorski, and has Ed. Nr. 255K. on
the music. It is the Concerto #11 in Eb, and is the 4-6 track on the Meyer
recording. I even had room on one of your CD's I just sent out. I bought
mine in Gent, Belgium back in 1993 at ClarFest.
I saw Michael Bryant's posting, and this music that I have has an 11 on it
(though his posting mentions a 9). It matches Sabine's recording CDC 754842
2, so call it want you want.
