of clarinet Hi, As teacher and performer I' m quit interested in a
discussion in clarinet care. For example oil: A student told me, her last
teacher recommend her to oil the wood every morning before school. A
friend, also professional musican, never oils. I use oil when the wood gets
grey. Or how to handle a new clarinet? I need 2 month to awke my
instrument.(My opinion) What about the pads? Or the best cork grease?( I
use lipcaresticks, Labello) I think everyone has got special tricks or
experiences that helps somebody or, at least, reassure. Cheers, Ulrich

There was an Elementary Band Director in the Phila. Suburbs who instructed
his Clarinet students to "run water through their Clarinets to clean them".
I kid you not. I would get students who would tell me about his
instructions. The first couple, I figured that they did not listen to him
say "this is for Trombones only", but he never did. He would tell them in
their lessons to run water through the entire Clarinet (were not talkin
mouthpiece cleaning) to make it clean. What a moron..... He finally retired
this past year.
Oil the wood daily???? Talk about killing a Clarinet. (Does that guy put
Dampits in the Bore also??)
Heres a couple of mine - brush your teeth before playing - at least your
Dentist will be pleased. Keep the reed clean, it will vibrate better. And
use a paper towel, or tissue to clean the sockets of the tenons, not your
swab, as you don't want cork grease to get on the swab.
