The one complaint i've heard often about the Pyne string ligature is that it
stretches out over time. Atleast with using your own string, you son't have
any worry of stretching cuz you have to re string it every time.

As for being the most expensive, not quite so. Overpriced? I, personally,
think so. The Winslow, Olegature, and the Floating Rails are all about
$20-$30 more. And the BG Traditional is about the same price as the Pyne.

I will be transferring to UNT next Fall, or perhaps the year after.

To all,

Though I am not a performance clarinetist, I would like to mention a
ligature
that no one has mentioned yet. I personally use the Pyne ligature, and
highly
recommend it to many. This is a hand woven ligature that to my knowledge is
only available in Concert Black. One thing that I really like about the
Pyne
is that it allows me to "speed load" my reeds on my clarinet. Not only does
it
look nice and hold your reeds firmly on your mouth piece, but it also turns
many heads due to the fact that few have surprisingly ever seen it. The
only
bad thing about the Pyne is the price. Unfortunately the Pyne ligature, to
my
knowledge, is the most expensive ligature for the clarinet. If cost is no
problem to you, then I would give it a shot. You should be able to pick one
up
for around $40 to $50. Again, there is no metal on it at all, and is a
string,
hand-woven ligature.

I guess seems how this is my first post to this list, I'll introduce myself.
My name is Dustin Palmer and I attend the University of North Texas. My
major
is in Music Education, and I am a new freshman this fall. Currently, I play
the
Bb Clarinet, and study with the principal chair clarinetist of the Dallas
Wind
Symphony. I currently have been playing the clarinet for eight years now.
If
you have any questions for me, please feel free to E-mail me.
