Conductor to the orchestra at the beginning of a rehearsal of
La Boheme:

"Ladies and gentlement, please get your pencils out. We have some
changes we must make to this wonderful Puccini score: the first
two bars are not in 4/4 as written but in 3/4. In the 5th bar,
change the meter to 7/8 and stay in 7/8 until the end. In m. 7,
lower the pitch 1/2 step. In measure 13, lower the pitch one whole step
and this will remain until the end. Thank you all very much. Now
let us begin the act."

Soprano singing the role of Mimi: "Excuse me maestro. What would
you like me to change?"

Conductor: "Nothing madame. Just sing it as you did yesterday."
