I'm making my stupid pet human type this.

>Prokofiev left his score (and his other scores as well) in C, and left it to
the copyist to do the transposition. In Russia, many players play(ed) full
Boehm, with the low Eb, so for them, it is possible to play the part on a
(full Boehm) Bb clarinet. It is not a Kalmus invention, complete
with mistaken low Eb in the midst of one of the cat solos (Shadow take
note!!).

Evidently Prokofiev consulted a cat about the lyrics for the so-called cat
solos. The cat, naturally offended at the idea, retaliated in an
appropriately subtle manner. Let's just say that the cat solos do mean
something, that their translation would surprise you (but don't expect any
cat to spell it out), and that adolescent kittens, during their schooling in
subjugation and taming of humans, must pass a test in translating this little
joke, from the barbaric accent of screech-stick devil mixed with primate,
into proper Feline. However, we never permit kittens to listen until they're
old enough to open their eyes.
