Dear Michael,
I know...I was being just a grumpy. Sorry. Actually, I use the piano
keyboard a great deal in my clarinet lessons, because if children can see
the scales on the piano, it becomes a visual referent. They not only learn
the scale, but they see the piano in a whole new light, and become more
familiar with it. And the transposition isn't a problem.
I have used scales to actually make what appeared to be a difficult piece of
music much easier. I have to remember that, nlike me, most of my students
do not also play piano. I was fairly accomplished at piano before i ever
picked up clarinet, and, despite the transposition, it did make a
difference.
Cheers
Patty Smith
