I believe this was discussed once before on this list, under the heading
of "which clarinet", where the question of which transposition Prokofiev
wanted was raised.

Prokofiev left his score (and his other scores as well) in C, and left it
to the copyist to do the transposition. In Russia, many players play(ed)
full Boehm, with the low Eb, so for them, it is possible to play the part
on a (full Boehm) Bb clarinet. It is not a Kalmus invention, complete
with mistaken low Eb in the midst of one of the cat solos (Shadow take
note!!).

In the western incarnation (from Boosey) the part is in A. It actually
isn't too hard (esp. if you have until December!) to learn to play it on
the A clarinet. Even "up the tree" isn't impossible in 5 flats!
