Dave, I don't think that there is a great deal of reliable evidence
one way or the other, but the general wisdom suggests that reeds do
improve with age and that the longer you keep them the better
potential they will have, though exactly what is better about them
remains imprecise and unarticulated. I just found that they lasted
longer than newer reeds but that those which would have been bad
early, remained bad later.
As I say, it is a world ready for serious research.
