I've run into only one Auguste Buffet, and that was in Perry Ritter's
repair shop in the summer of '98. It was an old horn, obviously (tarnished
keys), but played beautifully. Ritter knew nothing about the mark except
that the instrument was a consignment from none other than Ken Peplowski,
who had enough R-13s to get him through anything, so he didn't need the old
horn anymore. The price was cheap enough--$600, including the pochette
case that looked like it had been used to ward off a mugger--but since it
was a Bb and I already had the Bb Centered Tone, I didn't think I needed it
just because it had the name "Buffet" on it.

But if it had been an A...mamacita, who would've paid the rent that month:-)?

Ken
