David,
i began viola a few years ago as adult beginner. started with a teacher
who had extensive study with Kato in England. went to a week long
workshop in Vermont the next year and have returned 3 times. each time i
got to work both clarinet and viola.
best thing i ever did for my clarinet playing. and life in general.
'it is either easy or impossible'
the clarinet coach i get to do occasional study with has very much the
same attitudes.
so you worked with Kato on clarinet?
how great that you had that influence as a young musician.
i found that i needed to make a booklet to send home with students so
that their parents will know that clapping and singing note names was
'real' practice.
