I realize that any beginning band method is a grand compromise. I sure wouldn't
want to write one.

As a private teacher, I get to see and will sometimes work out of one of them.
I will do this at least until I get a good feel for the student and have an
educated guess as to how fast he will be progressing. Once I get a feel for
this, I will recommend a private method.

I have a quite strong opinion that most band methods are poor, deficient in
many areas, and down right wrong in lots of spots. Some of the fingerings
recommended are simply wrong.

I will go to my grave saying that the whole effort and complete body of music
that was part of "First Division Band Method" represents the best effort ever
put forth by a publisher and those educators that authored the series.
