Although I am a "hobbyist" clarinet repairer and not on the same level as the
professionals who contribute to this list, here's the approach I take. After
disassembling a clarinet that is in the condition you describe (badly
neglected, dried out), I "paint" almond oil inside and outside the instrument
and let it sit for at least a few weeks. Only then do I begin to work on the
clarinet. I buy the almond oil (Tree of Life brand but others should work
well) from a local health food store. To apply the oil, I use paint brushes
and silk swabs reserved only for this purpose.
