-0700 Subject: [kl] Definitive Recordings Golly, but you people aren't any
fun any more! I though for sure we'd get some cool discussion over this.
Let me stir the pot again. Are there "definitive" recordings of a piece --
so nifty that they are close to the ideal (for the philosophically
inclined, the Platonic form)? I suppose that the first argument (in the
academic, not personal sense) would be whether such a thing is possible.
I'll aver that it is. Because it appears that no one will get too involved
in the discussion unless there are direct clarinetistic examples, I will
proffer 2 recordings that I'd opine to be "definitive": Benny's Copland and
Stanley's Corigliano. So there. I've got my Nomex suit on, so flame away! kjf

Stan's Nielsen Concerto is pretty definitive too. I'd like to hear the
recording (he's performed it, but don't know if it was ever broadcast
anywhere) of Neidich playing the Corigilano. I think his technique even
surpasses Drucker's.
