In regard to Dan Paprocki's interesting questions:

>I'm curious what other college professors or students have as a typical
weekly lesson assignment for an hour lesson. . .

Allow me to excerpt from a handout I give to my new students regarding
practicing. This relates to their required practice schedule of three
hours per day. Many practice four hours per day, so I've detailed how
one might apportion that additional hour. For a one hour lesson, I
would typically assign technique, 4 pages of etudes, a solo, a tonguing
exercise, and an "old" and "new" excerpt. As in one's practice routine,
the exigencies of special needs like recitals, auditions, or technical
re-tooling require adjustments, but I think that a basic well balanced
"diet" should be maintained. Sometimes I think that I should include
more duo playing and sight-reading in that diet, but there's just so
much to do...
