I think this advice is interesting because it is exactly the opposite of
what my teacher taught. He was from the "smile" school: pull the corners
of your mouth back, away from the mouthpiece.

A worthwhile thing to try would be working on making sure your corners of
your mouth are in towards the mouthpiece. Think of making your mouth into

an "0" or marble bag top. This should equalize the pressure on your
mouthpiece and give you a darker sound. I don't want to comment on reed
size as I don't know your set up.
