I'm not a performance student, but I am learning from the university's
performance tutor anyway......right now I'm on one study, long-term learning
the Weber 1st concerto, an unaccompanied solo (Stravinsky at this point in
time - we vary which one from week to week so I don't go completely crazy!)
and a sonata movement (it's Horovitz atm) each week. As for practice time,
well, it depends. As I'm not studying clarinet, I'm probably doing less
practice than others, but I tend not to time my practices - quality not
quantity. In psych (my major) this morning (current topic is expertise, and
how one gets it!) we were told that little and often is a much better way to
practise - you'll improve much faster this way. I've got a big competition
coming up in early December, which I'm playing the Weber for, and I'm
guessing that as my stress and panic levels rise, so will my practice
time......
