Another of the unapproved (scandalous ;-) ) aids was shown to me by my
clarinet instructor at music camp this summer - Amanda Palmer.

What she uses is a small piece of Hockey Players mouth guard of the type
designed to be immersed in boiling water to soften them, and then formed to
your teeth.

You cut a small piece from the guard, immerse it in boiling water for the
time specified on the package ( Amanda's was 10 sec., mine was 40 sec), and
then stretch the piece out so that it is thin. It can then be formed over
your bottom teeth, and trimmed as desired. If it is not comfortable, just
immerse it and rework it again. It is a lot more comfortable than tape,
cigarette papers or Band-Aids (folded into a pad), all of which I had
previously used.

Purchase price was under $5, and would make many teeth guards.
