At this time I am using for saxophone teaching the beautiful method, =
written by the Aurelia Saxophone Quartett, for clarinet the equally =
lovely method written by the great, but much underesteemed Dutch =
clarinettist Herman Braune. I think both are top of the bill of what is =
available. Both methods are very pleasing for the average students, yet =
not progressing to slowly for the more gifted ones, as you can easily =
select what has to be done. Both methods have the advantage to be very =
cheap: some 25 guilders (about US$ 12) per volume.

However two weeks ago, and in a different context, I visited De Haske =
Music Publishers in Heerenveen, The Netherlands, and there ran into the =
method "Horen, Lezen & Spelen" ("Hear, listen & play").

It was love at first sight.

As I was short of time I only looked at the clarinet method, but I am =
quite sure the methods for all instruments are eqaully thoroughly =
well-bred, as the clarinet method is. It has been built in a thorough =
(for those liking word plays: not sorrow)fashion, people have been =
thinking deeply on all aspects of music making, and as far as I can =
judge, it is by far the best of all existing methods, _even_ better than =
Herman Braune or the Aurelia Saxophone Quartett methods! It costs only =
some 30 guilders (about US$ 14), and that includes a cd with lots of =
examples of how to play the exercises (these examples have been played =
on some kind of keybaord, but it shows your pupils, what they should =
hear). I did not contact De Haske about this mail, but I am convinced =
they can take care of an English translation.

And, to put my position clear: I am not paid by De Haske for this =
message, I am not on their pay roll or related to this publisher other =
than as a buyer of their pieces for one of the three amateur wind =
orchestras I am playing with. I was an IT specialist, and am jobless for =
over four years now, that 's all

Greetings

Rien

BTW Excuses for my poor use of the English language
