This wasn't aserious suggestion! Orchestras develop a style over many years
and this can be easily upset by the appointment of good but inappropriate
musicians. I think Philadelphia and Chicago would blend like oil and water-
which is not a criticism of either band. I'm all for more work for musicians
if the market can sustain it.

With the reduction of funding in classroom and perepetetic teaching fewer
people are going to colleges now and in any case the orchestral scene no
longer looks so attractive to them. There are other options.

I AGREE- did you read my post about post-graduate course? it's about
those "other options" teaching them to us before we graduate. of course,
it would certainly be better to start teaching young musicians marketing,
advertising, forming groups, this and that, at an early age but... it isn't
always like that. if you have saw that post, do you have any comments?
i'm very interested in getting lots of input on the topic and sources in
which to gaze, etc. i'd be glad to resend it if you have any ideas, or
would like to see my proposal.
