Eastern European orchestras certainly have made a bid for work by
undercutting although this has mainly been in the film music scene where the
kudos of an orchestras name is not paramount to sell the product.

Even in this area however it has not taken the composers long to realise
that they can achieve better results in half the time with a London
orchestra. There have been projects which have started in Hungary and been
scrapped and come back to London. They have even recorded most of the
soundtrack in Hungary and then come to London to record the opening and end
titles because they know that these are the only bits people actually listen
to. I still maintain that it is a short term policy to reduce fees. London
is still ridiculously cheap compared to the US for equal quality.
