"Sheesh! Lighten up. I play music for fun. I don't make my living at it.
I don't treat it like a job. Most people who play instruments play them for
fun. A number of people on this list are entirely too pompous in their
attitude toward playing music."

Amen! Do it because you love it (whether you are professional or not). Have
fun and the audience and other players will catch your enthusiasm. I'd much
rather sit next to a lesser technician on a gig with an excellent attitude.
Yes, clarinet playing takes alot of hard work, but aren't we doing it because
it gives us pleasure? Isn't music joy? Isn't that what we want to share
through our playing?

I think its important to warm-up in a way that warms up your fingers, tone
and tests the "playability" of your reed. Playing patterns or excerpts that
you like and are comfortable with will be "impressive". "Impressive" is
playing with confidence.

I enjoy this list most for the technical information, ideas and, yes,
enthusiasm. Keep it coming!

J
