I'm not any sort of expert, but I will mention that I've been using a
shareware program called Noteworthy Composer to enter midi files. I've
found it really helps me and my lack of rhythm to input the exercises for
computer playback. Especially as I can set the tempo to whatever, and =
speed
it up as needed. It really helps me to hear how things are supposed to
sound. Also, my mom has a whole box of sheet music from the 1900-1920 era
that belonged to my great-grandmother. I've been entering those, just to
get an idea of what they sounded like. I'll probably make those available
on my web site, one of these eons.

Anyway, back to Noteworthy Composer. The reason I chose it is that it's
input is word-processing-like, which I suits me well. It's limited in =
some
ways, for example, things like trills you have to put in manually. But =
for
my uses it's perfect. I forget what it cost to register, but there is =
info
about it at http://www.ntworthy.com/composer/download.htm. It can
import/export to midi, so you might check it out. Of all the
freeware/shareware I looked into, that's the one I liked the best. =
Perhaps
as a technical writer, you might also like it.
