dear Gruv'n,

Dee has great advice here. Not too much I can add, except, possibly, this:
make sure that if you do choose to study privately that you hook up with a
teacher who understands your goals as an adult beginner.
When you go for that sample lesson, make sure you are clear about what you
want to do.
Lastly, don't be too hard on yourself. I too am doing the balancing act.
And motherhood seems to always win out over the rest of the equation. You
are setting a good example for your children by showing them you are willing
to keep working at playing an instrument, despite the initial difficulties
and hard work. Work always comes before pleasure, and I can say that the
pleasure of playing the clarinet has always outweighed the work I had to put
into it.
Best Wishes,
Patty Smith
