Whoa there! Holding a monopoly? I think not - at least I don't think Chicago
has signed an agreement with the CSO to be the sole representative of
Chicago in the orchestral music scene.

If you mean a "virtual" monopoly - in the sense that there aren't too many
cities that can afford (with private & public funds) to field more than one
orchestra - I agree. Just like baseball, football, soccer, art museums,
science museums, and other endeavors that take gobs of money.
