"The East Bronx; Bryant Avenue; P.S. 66 and Herman Ritter JHS. That's where
I'm from and proud of it. In fact my dad, Charles Lipshitz and my mom,
Frances Rosen, first met at a dance at the Bronx Zoo. So, you can see that
my roots are very deep in the Bronx," emphasized Hal.
...
While doing a television special with The Captain and Tenille in New
Orleans, it was suggested that he dust off his clarinet to do a Dixieland
tune. It worked so well that Hal's love affair with the clarinet returned.
He now includes this in his musical tours.
...
Oh, and how did Hal change his name? "Between high school and college I
decided to change my name. As I was driving home from a date in Lakewood,
New Jersey, I saw a huge gas storage tank with the letters Linden (for
Linden, New Jersey) and the letter L-I-N-D-E-N were so large; large enough
for a big star. So, there it was; right in front of my eyes."
